Mossel Bay
No Hurry. No Worries
Your Safety
Mossel Bay is proudly low in crime. It’s one of the safest towns in South Africa – but, as with anything in life, it’s always best to take reasonable precautions to protect yourself and your possessions. Here are some tips:
- Take advice from the locals – especially about where to go after dark;
- Avoid walking alone in deserted areas and at lonely look-out points;
- Avoid carrying large sums of cash and make sure that your bags and cameras are secured with stout straps;
- Don’t allow strangers to help you at bank teller machines (ATMs) – if you’re unsure of what to do, ask for assistance inside the bank or from your concierge or the manager of your guest house;
- Please don’t give your money to children and beggars on the Streets – it’s usually extorted by more senior people or used to buy glue for sniffing. If you’re moved to help, rather provide food or clothing or contact one of the local service clubs if you’d like to make a cash donation.
- Lock your doors whenever you leave your car unattended and, at night, park in well-lit areas.
