As the saying goes, “All roads lead to Rome,” and this December, all roads lead to Mossel Bay.

The Great Escape to Mossel Bay is hosting the well-known annual 2021 Hot Summer of Touch (HSOT) touch rugby tournament, which will be stopping off at several vacation spots before kicking off the final legs at Diaz Beach and Hartenbos, both in the Mossel Bay municipality.

Beachgoers will welcome some of South Africa’s best touch rugby players to Strand on 5 December, Camps Bay on 12 December, Kleinmond on 16 December and Struisbaai on 19 December, Mossel Bay proper on 27 December and Hartenbos on 29 December.

The greater Mossel Bay is the perfect escape this festive season. With 67km of coastline and five blue flag beaches, an average of 320 days of sunshine a year, over 30 restaurants, almost 60 different activities to experience, including helicopter trips and flips, shark cage diving, hiking, safaris and horseback riding, it’s no wonder that the area is considered the adventure and family destination of the Garden Route. And with two Mossel Bay venues on the cards for the end of December, there will be plenty of fun to be had.

What started as a standalone tournament 21 years ago is now an epic six-event series that is run as a roadshow, with celebrity MC Deon Bing, contests, product displays and prizes up for grabs. You might even spot past and present provincial and Springbok players in and around the beaches!

Teams consist of a maximum of eight players and the format encourages participation, with a Premier, Cup, Junior and even Ladies section, if there is sufficient interest at certain beaches.

To enter the HSOT championship, head over to and register online. With strict COVID-19 protocols in place, teams need to pre-register to avoid disappointment, as the number of team entries is strictly controlled. If the full team contingent has not been filled prior to the events, late entries may be permitted on the morning of each event (from 07:15 to 08:45). Call or WhatsApp the HSOT hotline on 062 770 6818 with queries.
